About me
Shaleesa Clayton is an alternative sentencing working in the Frankfort Trial Office. In 2011 she earned her degree in Sociology with a Criminology minor from Western Kentucky University. Soon after graduation, Shaleesa began her career in state government beginning with Probation and Parole as a pre-sentence investigator in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In this role, she witnessed first-hand how the cycle of poverty, generational trauma, and hopelessness contribute to justice involvement. This motivated her to want to do more outreach within her community and prompted a career change. She later transferred to CHFS and began working as a social worker on an ongoing child protective services team, working directly with families to overcome the same obstacles witnessed during her time with the Department of Corrections. As a CPS worker, she developed her motivational interviewing skills to try to break down communication barriers and develop permanent fixes for the families that she worked with. In 2021, Shaleesa moved to Frankfort where she found her home with DPA. Since being with the agency, she has become a member of the agency’s workgroup and facilitated several groups at NAPD’s annual Racial Justice Conference in Montgomery, Alabama.
